Biodiesel 101
Why give the manual away?

It took me over a year to write this manual, so why am I giving it away?
I want individuals to be empowered with alternatives to fossil fuels as well as fuels that compete with food crops. Our addiction to oil is a moral issue and we should do everything we can to facilitate alternatives. Why?
The U.S. has only 3% of the proven oil and natural gas reserves, and yet we consume 25% of the world refined energy annually. Offshore oil drilling is obviously not a sustainable solution in the context of our U.S. demand. Our politicians:
- have shown no leadership on capping carbon emissions.
- are caving in to big oil with respect to offshore oil drilling.
- don't realize we've been down this path before.
Our trade deficit is compounded since we import 66% of the oil we consume. Our national security is at risk because of our
- trade deficit and resulting debt.
- dependence on Middle Eastern Oil
The U.S. is a major contributor to green house gas (GHG). The U.N. has linked our GHG emissions to the burning of fossil fuels. The U.N. has linked GHG gas emissions to climate change. Third world countries will be severely impacted by climate change.
Most important of all, President Bush says we as Americans are addicted to oil, and has openly stated that oil is one reason our U.S. troops are still in Iraq. I don't want to contribute to this situation, and I think we should have affordable alternatives.
In response, this manual provides one more way to support our troops by doing something at home. For those of us who rely on vehicles, homebrewing biodiesel gives us one alternative while we wait for the right leadership to come along.
If you want change, don't wait.
Take it head on.
